Want to do more? | He aha atu hei mahi māu?
If you’re an arts lover looking to support artists or arts organisations, here are 7 simple ways you can help:
Share
The art you love with friends and whānau online with the hashtag #TFA. This helps keep the work of Aotearoa’s artists visible while we’re in isolation. You can share the #TFA video too!
Buy
The content you’re consuming during lockdown – pay your Spotify subscription fee, buy e-books (see more here, including the great news that you don’t need an e-reader to access e-books!), buy music and merchandise from sites like Bandcamp. Put a deposit down on that piece of art you've been thinking of buying – this will help keep dealer galleries open, and it directly supports artists.
Stream
Even better – stream New Zealand content: NZonScreen and TVNZonDemand are two platforms full of great homegrown stories.
Give
If you can, consider donating to artist relief fundraisers or your local arts organisation. Buy memberships or join up to the ‘Friends group’ of your favourite festival, theatre, gallery, museum, orchestra – whichever arts organisations you love.
Pay
Artists for their work when you watch their livestream on Boosted Live. Or consider giving to The Arts Foundation, a philanthropic organisation that backs New Zealand art and artists.
Send
A fan letter to your favourite artist or arts organisation. Art loves an audience – your support means a lot.
Advocate
Drop your local MP or councillor a line and let them know how much the arts mean to you, and that you want to see art well supported into the recovery. For more great tips on standing up for the arts, check out this Advocacy Toolkit.
