I’ve been taking daily instax Polaroid snaps as a diary exercise during isolation. As well as that, a more elaborate photo project with my teenager preoccupies our lockdown days. As a teacher I often ask my students, what will you make when no one’s looking? When there are no assignments and the galleries stop calling, what will you make?
When I was a kid I filled my school holiday time by making books. My handwritten text and illustrations were held together with the aid of a tape gun my dad used at his factory job. I don’t remember showing anyone in the neighbourhood what I was doing but that didn’t matter I was making things I wanted see. I am thankful for Art because it has given me so much, through it I can reflect on the world and create a place for me in it.
